5/9/18: Como esta la vaina?
Buenos Días! Getting into the heat here in Harlem and that means tons more people out and about, especially in Central Park!
We had some pretty awesome stuff happen this week. The best part was definitely on Saturday, because we got to go to the temple sealing of the Matarrita Family! It was seriously one of the coolest things ever. Seeing how happy they were to be in the temple together was life changing. That honestly is the goal right there, seeing a family get sealed for time and all eternity while out here in the mission field. It was something I will never forget and definitely will be eternally grateful for them inviting us to come and be a part of it.
That same night, we had an awesome miracle. We had one of our lessons fall through (common occurrence) and so we decided to call up a referral we had gotten from the Bronx. We called and asked him what he was up to and if he would like a chapel tour right then. He said he would call us back in 10, and when he did he was all in for the tour! So we hopped on a bus real quick and got over there to set up the chapel all nice and it looked perfect. The whole overflow was opened with the baptismal font opened and lights all on. As we met the guy and began to teach him in front of the sacrament table, he began to tell us how he found the missionaries on the train and had felt the spirit just by talking to them there. He also told us that just over the phone he could feel that same spirit, and solely because of that reason he knew that our church was true already. We brought up Joseph Smith and before we could explain anything he told us that he read about him in the Restoration pamphlet and that he already knew he was a prophet! So cool cause that like never happens! We then walked over to the baptismal font and we talked about how Jesus was baptized. We invited him to be baptized on June 23, and he accepted without hesitation. As we knelt in prayer he thanked God for being brought into our path, and we know that He had everything to do with that! God is real and he's preparing his children daily!
This week I was reading in Alma 7: 2-3, which says: 2 Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searchedthe scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God.
3 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.
Thank you to Elder and Sister Coombs for breakfast at Sylvia's!
It is so awesome to see my brethren out here and back home always coming closer to Christ. I've seen as I try my hardest to be close to Him through prayer and fasting, I too have the power and authority of God to teach. As missionaries we are "set apart from the world" to "teach all nations". I'm so privileged to really be teaching all the nations here in New York.
Have a great week everyone!
