Week 27: Feliz Navidad!!

Me at the UN on P-day

Another P day here in Harlem!!!
It’s been such a fun week inviting people to our Christmas activities in the ward and just feeling the Christmas spirit! We didn’t have anything too crazy happen this week, but we definitely had some cool stuff.

So last P day we actually went to this African market place to buy little gifts for people and they kept trying to tell us it was $20 for a hat haha. But we all know they buy them for like $2 so we talked them down to like $4 a piece haha. These little markets are awesome because it’s basically anything you could want souvenir wise, for like dirt cheap and plus you get to barter so that’s always good! We had a lesson that night with the family that we found last week when we helped them with groceries. The whole family was there, so there were 6 little boys and then the older girl and the mom. It was so awesome to be able to share some videos and scriptures with them about Christmas and then invite the to be able to come to all the stuff we have going on at the church this week. That family is seriously hilarious and they love having the missionaries over, so that’s always a plus!

We had a dinner appointment with one of our members on Monday, and he is the coolest guy ever. He’s like 36, works at the UN, and makes the most bomb food ever. And his sense of humor is just like mine so we were just laughing through the whole dinner. He has such an awesome outlook on the gospel, and just looks for the best in everyone which is awesome and something I learned from him. He also loves Harry Potter so of course I had to show him my little Keychain that my parents sent me and he loved it haha. Last thing with him, he is giving us a personal tour of the UN today, so I’ll be sure to send pictures later!

We had our Christmas Devotional on Friday, and it was pretty awesome. We listened to all of president Smiths family share their testimonies and thoughts on Christmas, and had some really cool musical numbers by the missionaries. It was all the way up in Ossining, which literally takes us like 2 hours to get too, but it was pretty cool to see the upstate version of the mission, since I’ve only been in the city so far and will probably be here for like a year in total! We got to see all the mission there, so you already know I had to hang out with the boy Elder Muñoz!

We had a super cool idea come to us yesterday while we were studying at the church. We were trying to think of what we could teach for FHE that night, and how we could implement something cool with Light the World. We ended up coming up with a dope lesson plan for all the people we’re going to visit this week, with 3 videos and 3 scriptures that detail the true meaning of Christmas. Then we went to Staples and designed and made a banner for light the world that I’ll include pictures of! Every body we visit is going to sign the banner along with us, and we’re going to take pictures with all of them, so by the end we have a full banner of names of people who helped light the world and pictures with all of them! It’s pretty freaking sweet honestly!

Lastly, just wanted to share a scripture about Christmas. It’s in 2 Nephi, chapter 19, verse 6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Christ truly is the Prince of Peace, and the only way for us to gain that peace and that true joy in our lives is though turning to him and trusting in him and his father. I know he lives, and that he was born for each and every one of us. I am so blessed and happy to be able to be sharing this message with the Hispanic community of New York, and just love it so much. Have an awesome Christmas, and make sure to look for more opportunities to #iluminaelmundo these next few days! Love you all so much!!!
