Week 41: Tendremos conferencia en tres días!

Image
Gracias a él activity! Talked to like 200 people in an hour and a half.  Another week here in Harlem in the books! This weekend is General Conference and I can't tell you how excited I am! We had some pretty cool stuff happen to us on Saturday. We were walking down the street after having contacted people for about 2 hours, with no success. A man walks up and asks us how we're doing which is super weird in New York because usually when people walk up to us it's either to yell at us or lie to us and say they are college graduates who need some change for some coffee. We ended up walking with him for about 20 blocks, talking about his family and how he loves the peace that our church brings to the Harlem community. We left him with a card and then had another awesome thing happen when we went to look up an investgator. We got out of the elevator and saw a lady that we had passed off a few weeks ago, and she told us that she took seeing us again as a confirmation ...

Week 40: HOLA!

Buenos días! It was such a great week, but honestly it went by so fast that I literally don't even remember half of what happened haha. We had a baptism, so I'll start off talking about that! So on Thursday last week one of our investigators that was supposed to be baptized the week before messaged us and told us that he wanted to be baptized on Monday! His girlfriend came up from Virginia for it, and we had the baptism that night! It was pretty cool to see the difference in this guy from the first lesson we had with him, to now. His testimony has grown so much and his perspective on the gospel and God's love for him has completely flipped a 180. Elder Cuevas got to baptize him which was amazing! Got in the water within his first cycle!  We did tons of service this week. Just cleaning for people and going around doing little things for people we saw in need. One cool thing we did was go downtown with a member from another stake to translate for him in ...

Week 39: Por Designio Divino

Super eventful week here in Harlem! We had tons of stuff going on and the days have been going by way too fast.  We had some really cool stuff happen Friday-Sunday. So we had a goal to find 3 new people to teach by the end of the week, and when Friday rolled around we had absolutely nobody new. So we went out to look up some people who had been previously taught by missionaries, and found 2 people on friday, 2 people on saturday, and then 2 people on sunday! The coolest part was that 5 of the 6 people were just ones that we randomly started talking too, taught them about the gospel, and then were able to set up a time to meet with them in the near future. It was pretty cool to see how all of these people just pretty much walked up to us and as soon as we said hi to them they all just started opening up to us and telling us their struggles and beliefs in God.  We had an awesome lesson with one of our investigators on Saturday. We met him at the church and had the lesson...

Week 38:Mucha lluvia!

It has been such a good week here in NY!  I want to started off with an amazing miracle we had last night as we were waiting to enter a members building. We were outside with our zone leaders just street contacting people in the middle of Manhattan, when this teenager walks by and I asked him how he was doing. He looked at me funny and asked me how I was doing and then kept walking. I turned to the other missionaries and told them that midtown Manhattan was not a good place to find people to teach because there are no hispanics. Then, I saw the kid turn around and start walking back toward us. He walked up to me and asked why I asked him how he was doing. I just told him that as missionaries that's exactly what we do, see how people are doing and find out how Jesus can bless their lives and get them through hard times. He expressed to us how he was 17 and had just recently gotten kicked out of boarding school, and that he was really looking for some direction and guidance i...
