Week 39: Por Designio Divino

Super eventful week here in Harlem! We had tons of stuff going on and the days have been going by way too fast.

We had some really cool stuff happen Friday-Sunday. So we had a goal to find 3 new people to teach by the end of the week, and when Friday rolled around we had absolutely nobody new. So we went out to look up some people who had been previously taught by missionaries, and found 2 people on friday, 2 people on saturday, and then 2 people on sunday! The coolest part was that 5 of the 6 people were just ones that we randomly started talking too, taught them about the gospel, and then were able to set up a time to meet with them in the near future. It was pretty cool to see how all of these people just pretty much walked up to us and as soon as we said hi to them they all just started opening up to us and telling us their struggles and beliefs in God.

We had an awesome lesson with one of our investigators on Saturday. We met him at the church and had the lesson in the room with the baptismal font, and taught him the plan of salvation. It was so cool because I explained to him that we had lived before with God, and then were sent down here to earth as part of the plan He has for us. Leo (our investigator) asked, "So if he knew we were going to sin, why did he send us down here?" He was super confused as to why we were put through trials and hard things if God loves us. So, we whipped out the book of Mormon to 2 Nephi chapter 2 and had him read some of it with us. As he read verse 21, he stopped in the middle, looked at the ground and then looked at us with tears in his eyes and said "Now I know why I am here." It was so amazing to see him find his own answer to such a deep question that almost all of us have asked ourselves. We explained to him that our time here on earth is full of tests and trials in order for us to learn just like Adam and Eve did, and that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ all of us can become clean and enter the presence of God once more! He was so excited to hear about the plan and said that he wants his family in Mexico to hear it as well. We set a baptismal date with him for the 7th of April. The funny part is that he always tells us that we are super smart because we know all of these things which is funny because I don't even know the scriptures that well but hey it's the spirit that matters!!! 😂

Other than that it has been a pretty normal week filled with little miracles and definitely some disappointing things, but the good outweighs the bad always out here in the mission! It is so amazing to be out here and to be able to spend 2 years serving the Lord who has giving me so much. I wanted to end with a scripture I read yesterday, in 2 Nephi 2 - 19. It's in a lot of verses, but I'm going to quote from all of them where it says, "For all this His anger (or sadness) is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still." No matter what we mess up during our lives, He will always have His hand extended to us. Nobody who has lived or will ever live will have to go through life alone because of the infinite atonement of Jesus Christ.

Love you all so much and hope you have an awesome week! Keep it real!
