4/25/18: ¿¡Donde fue el tiempo?!

Elder Cuevas, Me and Elder Smith

Buenos días mis estimados amigos!
It's been a legit week! So much has been happening and the work is flying out here, same with the time. It's crazy that I'll only be training Elder Cuevas for a few more weeks!

We had some really cool stuff actually happen yesterday, when we were walking through the city. We've found that just walking and street contacting people here in Harlem is one of the best ways to find those who are ready for the gospel. We were on a trip split with Elder Smith (I'll talk more about him later) and we walked by these two Mexicans who acted like they had seen us before. We went up and started talking to them and ended up sharing the Book of Mormon with them. They shared how Jesus has helped them and we asked them why they think He atoned for them. It was so cool to be able to feel the love that He has for them and for everyone in the world.

Me, Alejandro, and Elder Cuevas

We were walking down the street on the far east side of Harlem and this lady comes up to us all excited and starts signing. We obviously don't know too much sign language, but we turned on our Hotspot real quick then FaceTimed the ASL Elders and they were able to talk to her for like 10 minutes! It was pretty legit to see how this technology we've been given is for the benefit of the people out here and the Lord really is progressing His work!

One quick funny story. So we were on splits with the assistants and Elder Smith at the same time on Monday, so I ended up going with Elder Smith and Elder Nadolny. We met this guy outside his apartment and got to talking about the gospel and how he loves to sing gospel music. He started to straight up serenade us! 😂 it was hilarious. We also had a lesson with an investigator in Elder Smith's area, and she was bearing testimony at the end to Elder Cuevas about having patience and sufficient faith which was crazy awesome. The funny part was that at the end of the testimony instead of saying "in the name of Jesus Christ" she said "ya tu sabe" which means "you already know" it was so freaking funny Elder Smith and I were literally crying we were laughing so hard 😂

Me and Alejandro on his Baptism day!

So Elder Smith is like the dopest guy ever. He's from California and he actually goes home this cycle but he'll be going back to BYU after! We have been in Harlem together for the same amount of time about 6 months and we have become like best friends over that time. He is seriously so legit and it's funny because we probably would have never been friends if we met each other before the mission but because we met each other out here we freaking love each other. This guy is seriously one of the coolest dudes ever, and I can't wait to see him in Provo to be able to hang out with him. It's super funny cause he looks like such a Utah guy so every time we're on a split I always tell people he's from Utah and he gets so angry 😂😂 but we have had some amazing spiritual experiences together and I think that's what makes us so close. Never gonna forget this man!

Me and Alejandro, great day! :)

To finish off, we had 2 baptisms on Saturday and they were amazing. Handel, the 9 year old that got baptized, ran to his mom after and just kept hugging her saying that he felt so happy. Alejandro is amazing and his conversion has been a life changer for me. I actually found him on a bus about 5 months ago, and had the chance to baptize him on Saturday. That was such a privilege. The joy I see in these people's eyes makes it all worth it. The mission is the best place to be, and helping these people find Christ is such a blessing.

Love you all!
