4/25/18: ¿¡Donde fue el tiempo?!

Image
Elder Cuevas, Me and Elder Smith  Buenos días mis estimados amigos! It's been a legit week! So much has been happening and the work is flying out here, same with the time. It's crazy that I'll only be training Elder Cuevas for a few more weeks! We had some really cool stuff actually happen yesterday, when we were walking through the city. We've found that just walking and street contacting people here in Harlem is one of the best ways to find those who are ready for the gospel. We were on a trip split with Elder Smith (I'll talk more about him later) and we walked by these two Mexicans who acted like they had seen us before. We went up and started talking to them and ended up sharing the Book of Mormon with them. They shared how Jesus has helped them and we asked them why they think He atoned for them. It was so cool to be able to feel the love that He has for them and for everyone in the world. Me, Alejandro, and Elder Cuevas We were wa...

4/18/18: Buena semana!

Hola mis amigos!  Another solid week here on the east side of Harlem down! We have an exciting week coming up as well! Two people are going to be baptized this Saturday that we have been teaching so I will be sure to throw in some pictures of them!  So first, just wanted to start off with a quick story that my mom probably shouldn't read 😂 So we went to our members house yesterday who lives like 10 blocks down from us on 110th st on the east side. He was telling us how like 2 days ago he was coming home and this guy runs up by the laundromat on the corner and just starts poppin off shooting at people! He hit some other guy in the leg twice but luckily that was the extent of it. But apparently the news crews and police tried to interview our member so that was pretty legit! And literally that happened in broad daylight like 10 streets down from our apartment. Crazy! Now back to spiritual stuff sorry 😂 So we had English class this last thursd...

Me and Elder Smith! Buenos Dias!  This has been an awesome week, but the past two days have been the BEST DAYS OF MY MISSION. I seriously have just loved it so much! So on Monday we went to Leadership meeting and then District Meeting and we talked alot about making this week the best week of our missions. In order to do that, we need to make each day the best day of our missions! I showed a video that the district that had some questions on the end. They were, "Is Jesús Christ proud of me?" and, "What would he say to me?"  Right after District Meeting we had a split with the zone leaders so I went to Elder Smiths area. We've been serving together for almost 6 months now and this guy is the coolest ever. We are seriously such good friends and we were talking about how we're going to hang out all the time once we're both in Provo. He heads home this cycle :( But, we went out to work and seriously everyone we stopped and talked to was eit...

Zone conference Pic with my boy Elder Cuevas Hey everyone! New transfer here in Harlem, and about to hit 6 months out here in Manhattan! Crazy how time flies.   Zone conference Pic with elder Faison and William Smith! So to start off just want to talk about someone we are teaching named Leo. He is so awesome and had been in our records for a while and we had never been able to meet with him. 2 transfers ago we were finally able to meet up and have an awesome lesson on the restoration. Ever since then this guy has been progressing like crazy and loves the book of Mormon so much! We send him assignments to read every other day and he calls us later and tells us what he has learned and any questions that he has. He also came to conference this past weekend and kept saying after to us "Ellos saben demaciado!" or "They know so much!" It was really cool to see him recognize our prophets as the mouthpieces of God!   Conference bfast that I obviousl...

Week 41: Tendremos conferencia en tres días!

Gracias a él activity! Talked to like 200 people in an hour and a half.  Another week here in Harlem in the books! This weekend is General Conference and I can't tell you how excited I am! We had some pretty cool stuff happen to us on Saturday. We were walking down the street after having contacted people for about 2 hours, with no success. A man walks up and asks us how we're doing which is super weird in New York because usually when people walk up to us it's either to yell at us or lie to us and say they are college graduates who need some change for some coffee. We ended up walking with him for about 20 blocks, talking about his family and how he loves the peace that our church brings to the Harlem community. We left him with a card and then had another awesome thing happen when we went to look up an investgator. We got out of the elevator and saw a lady that we had passed off a few weeks ago, and she told us that she took seeing us again as a confirmation ...

Week 40: HOLA!

Buenos días! It was such a great week, but honestly it went by so fast that I literally don't even remember half of what happened haha. We had a baptism, so I'll start off talking about that! So on Thursday last week one of our investigators that was supposed to be baptized the week before messaged us and told us that he wanted to be baptized on Monday! His girlfriend came up from Virginia for it, and we had the baptism that night! It was pretty cool to see the difference in this guy from the first lesson we had with him, to now. His testimony has grown so much and his perspective on the gospel and God's love for him has completely flipped a 180. Elder Cuevas got to baptize him which was amazing! Got in the water within his first cycle!  We did tons of service this week. Just cleaning for people and going around doing little things for people we saw in need. One cool thing we did was go downtown with a member from another stake to translate for him in ...

Week 39: Por Designio Divino

Super eventful week here in Harlem! We had tons of stuff going on and the days have been going by way too fast.  We had some really cool stuff happen Friday-Sunday. So we had a goal to find 3 new people to teach by the end of the week, and when Friday rolled around we had absolutely nobody new. So we went out to look up some people who had been previously taught by missionaries, and found 2 people on friday, 2 people on saturday, and then 2 people on sunday! The coolest part was that 5 of the 6 people were just ones that we randomly started talking too, taught them about the gospel, and then were able to set up a time to meet with them in the near future. It was pretty cool to see how all of these people just pretty much walked up to us and as soon as we said hi to them they all just started opening up to us and telling us their struggles and beliefs in God.  We had an awesome lesson with one of our investigators on Saturday. We met him at the church and had the lesson...
